Position Summary: The Advocate is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining a presence at several community locations to build trusted relationships with community-based partners, including but not limited to the Black Child Legacy Campaign’s Community Incubator Leads, the Sacramento Native American Health Center, and Child Protective Services. The Advocate provides supportive services to adult and youth victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sex trafficking. Services provided by the Advocate include crisis intervention, emotional support, individual case management, co-facilitating educational and peer support groups and activities, advocacy, and referrals. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and collaborative, approaching this work with enthusiasm and flexibility. The Advocate must be organized, have the willingness and ability to build and maintain positive relationships, facilitate groups and activities, be open minded and able to hold space for non-judgmental conversation, as well as able to advocate confidently and hold appropriate boundaries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain collaborative and professional relationships with identified community-based organizations in Sacramento, including delivering services on-site at partner locations weekly.
• Attend multidisciplinary team meetings with community partners as directed to offer support and accept appropriate referrals.
• Occasionally attend outreach or community events evenings or weekends.
• Provide trauma informed crisis intervention, advocacy, emotional support, education, and referrals to victims of domestic and sexual violence.
• When appropriate, provide structured case management to assist clients in achieving self-identified goals, leveraging their strengths and strategies to overcome barriers.
• Assist clients with filing CalVCB claims and applying for the Safe at Home Program.
• Assist clients in accessing WEAVE and other community resources, including public benefits, food, housing, legal assistance, healthcare, counseling, and financial support.
• Collaborate with internal WEAVE departments, external agencies, and community partners to coordinate services, referrals, and advocacy for clients.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and one-on-one meetings with supervisors to enhance skills, knowledge, and awareness of domestic and sexual violence issues and best practices for serving victims.
• Promote a culture of respect, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of the work. At all times, model appropriate professional behavior and boundaries.
• Consistent with agency and program requirements, maintain accurate, timely and confidential records of services provided.
• Adhere to all agency and department policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree in a social services field and 2 years’ relevant experience preferred; 3-5 years of relevant experience or any combination of education and experience will be considered. 
• Strong understanding of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care, and survivor-centered approaches.
• Previous experience working with survivors of domestic or sexual violence or trauma is highly desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals in crisis and create respectful, empowering professional relationships.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for documenting services, communicating with clients, and collaborating with staff and community partners.
• Empathy, compassion, and the ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing emotional support.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and priorities.
• Knowledge of community resources and the ability to connect survivors with appropriate services.
• Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the intersectionality of domestic violence with other issues, such as race, gender, and socioeconomic status.
• Valid driver’s license, proof of current auto insurance and reliable transportation.
• Successful pass of criminal background check.
• Successful completion of domestic violence and sexual assault peer counselor training (post-hire requirement) and ongoing completion of continuing education to maintain certification.

Work environment is primarily a busy office setting in a two-story building with stairs and an elevator. Local travel (driving) will be required to conduct meetings and deliver services at various area locations. Employees may need to move around and between floors, occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 lbs., or reach items above their head, below their waist, or stored in/on drawers and shelves. Employees may also need to remain in one position (i.e. sitting or standing) for an extended period while completing work tasks. Must be able to efficiently operate a keyboard and mouse or adaptive equivalent, write reports, take notes; utilize desk tools such as phones or calculators, and utilize larger office equipment such as printers and copy machines. Communicate clearly and concisely to others. Apply above average reasoning and attention to detail as required in the accomplishment of job duties.
