Job Description
One of our clients is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate to join their Washington, DC practice. This role is centered on providing expertise in mortgage lending, servicing, and financial services licensing matters, with a focus on compliance with federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in legal research, client interaction, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
• Assist clients with obtaining and maintaining financial services licenses across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
• Manage licensing requirements and applications through the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry, including overseeing paralegals handling submissions.
• Conduct detailed legal research related to compliance laws in mortgage lending, servicing, and financial services sectors.
• Draft and review formal and informal correspondence, legal memoranda, and other documentation for clients and regulatory agencies.
• Analyze licensing obligations for financial companies undergoing ownership changes or entering new markets.
• Provide guidance and direct interaction with clients, addressing their licensing and regulatory needs.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and resolve licensing issues.
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of compliance strategies for clients in motor vehicles, consumer finance, and money transmission.
• Supervise and mentor team members new to licensing procedures and compliance tasks.
• Possess 1-2 years of licensing experience; prior expertise in mortgage or financial services licensing is a plus.
• Hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with superior academic credentials.
• Demonstrate excellent analytical, legal research, and writing skills.
• Exhibit strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Display proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
• Maintain a strong work ethic and a collaborative team-player mentality.
• Licensed attorney with civil litigation experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with drafting motions and licensing agreements is advantageous.
