Position Overview

Join a World Class Institution!! The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) is hiring an Education Manager . Under administrative direction of the Education Director, organizes, plans, executes, controls, and evaluates the operations of the Education Department – with a focus on elementary and the Children’s Area Program; establishes and oversees educational programming; implements an evaluates operating policies, practices and procedures; provides advisory assistance and recommendations in developing education program strategy; serves as a representative promoting the Division with the teaching community and the public; assists in the budgetary process; serves as full line supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Organizes, plans, executes, and evaluates the operations of the Elementary Educational Services Program and the Children’s Area Program.
  • Implements and evaluates operating polices, practices, and procedures using patron feedback and provides advisory assistance and recommendations to the Education Director in developing the education program strategy.
  • Serves as a representative promoting the Division with the teaching community and the public through outreach and professional development.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Reviews and monitors the operations budget.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative work experience.
  • Requires five (5) years of experience teaching in a K-12 education environment within the past ten (10) years.
  • Requires two (2) years of experience creating standards-aligned programs, curricula, and lesson plans.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers possession of a current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License in K–12 education.
  • Prefers three (3) years of experience creating standards-aligned program curricula and lesson plans for a culturally diverse audience, including alternative ways to develop and deliver educational materials.
  • Prefers experience in planning three (3) or more events for large groups (e.g. tour groups, school groups, conference planning, etc.).
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience supervising staff or volunteers.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience measuring user satisfaction and/or applying user evaluation techniques to ensure programs and materials' effectiveness.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience working in a non-traditional education setting such as a museum, library, or non-profit.

  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)). Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
  • Requires the ability to keep and maintain an agency supplied cell phone.
