This position is responsible for LPN nursing services in a physician office practice to control patient flow for physician, obtain and document patient vitals, perform EKG strips, and other nursing duties as assigned. The Medical Assistant controls patient flow for providers, obtains and documents patient vitals, and performs other patient care and clerical duties. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers. LPN Essential Functions and Responsibilities include providing general nursing care, rooming patients, assisting physicians with examinations and treatments, obtaining patient history and vitals, ensuring materials and supplies availability, providing patient and family education, responding to patient phone inquiries, scheduling appointments and procedures, working with third party payors for authorizations, and rotating coverage for clinical staffing needs. MA Essential Functions and Responsibilities include greeting and escorting patients, reviewing patient charts, obtaining and documenting chief complaints and vitals, preparing exam rooms, assisting providers with procedures, drawing blood, documenting activities, communicating provider instructions, phoning in prescriptions, providing results to patients, and assisting with scheduling. Qualifications for LPN include a valid Virginia LPN license, AHA BLS Provider CPR, and preferred experience in physician office and specialty practice. Qualifications for MA include certification or training/experience with certification required within 18 months, AHA BLS Provider CPR, proficiency in clinical skills, knowledge of infection control and confidentiality policies, and preferred experience with electronic medical records and clinical support in medical office settings.
